Chapter 84. New Best Friend

Elaine stood at the doorway that led into the major part of the office, where all the cubicles, desks, and chairs were clustered together. She peered out around the corner, hoping that someone wouldn’t see her and ask questions.

Somehow, her kidnap hadn’t made the news, and she was not about to explain her continuous failure to pick up the important documents she needed.

“Are we going in soon?” Reiki’s voice had Elaine jumping.

She put a hand to her chest and turned back. “Don’t scare me like that.”

“I didn’t mean to, ma’am.”

Elaine’s brows furrowed. “And don’t call me ma’am. We’re almost the same age.”

Reiki’s face reddened with a flustered look. “But, ma’am-”

“Do you need me to get Andrew to sign off on that too?” Elaine demanded.

She’d complained that the guards followed her everywhere. Everywhere meant everywhere. She’d stepped into the shower to have a bath after Andrew had left. Only to find Reiki sitting on the toilet seat, full
