“As long as it won’t put your life in danger, yes.”
If Melvin or Andrew found out that she had lost the ring, her life would be in danger, but with Reiki by her side, they were bound to find out anyway.
Elaine drew in a deep breath, then narrated how she’d taken the ring to the sink, and Melvin had washed his hands, flushing it down the pipes where Marcus was supposed to have seen it.
“And I can’t afford to pay for the ring. If I can’t find it, I’ll have to marry him and lie about it for the rest of my life.”
“So, you don’t want to marry him?”
“Not really. No.”
“Then why did you accept his ring in the first place?”
Reiki asked the question that had been running around Elaine’s mind since she lost the ring.
