Chapter 4. Enough!
The journey to Glistening Royal Hospital is an exceedingly short one as in a few minutes, the cab driver neatly pulls over in front of a huge, luxurious white-colored building, leaving Lucien who had just relaxed a few minutes ago with the thoughts that the journey just started in awe.
He looks at the huge building not just twice but thrice and stares back at the cab driver who has been staring at him all this time while playing with his keys and at the same time waiting for his pay. "Are you sure we are in the right place, eh?" He implores softly and once again takes a peek at the building before staring back. "This place looks more like a hotel than a hospital."
The cab driver laughs out loud to the extent that tears start trickling down his cheeks.
This causes Lucien to furrow his brows at him as he asks. "And what’s funny about what I just said?"
"Everything is," the driver retorts and laughs once more. "Who doesn’t know the biggest hospital in this city? A wretched fellow like you I guess," he jeers and rolls his eyes.
Lucien smiles not feeling moved by his choice of words in any way and gets down from the cab. "How much is your pay?" He asks through the front door open glass, stares around to be sure that no one is watching, and puts his right hand into his right back pocket, pulling out two wraps of one hundred dollar notes.
"Just ten dollar bills," at the sight of the money in Lucien’s hand, the cab driver’s character takes a different approach as he stutters and swallows a lump of spittle.
Lucien chuckles at his sudden change in attitude, shakes his head, and hands him everything. "You can keep the rest." He walks out before the stunned cab driver can say anything, making a little body dance as he moves.
"See babes! Isn’t that the runaway ex of Juliet Pearson?" A young fair lady standing close to the entrance of the hospital whispers to a lady beside her and points at Lucien.
The lady follows her stretched hand and nods abruptly. "That’s him!" She exclaims and fixes her gaze on Lucien. "What’s he doing here? He looks just the same—so frayed and unkempt." She crinkles her nose and hisses.
"Maybe he’s here to beg for money lest he dies," the first lady says and both burst out laughing still not taking their eyes off him.
Lucien gets to where the ladies are and walks into the hospital without even sparing them a glance even though he knows they are gossiping about him.
He keeps walking but suddenly gets stopped by a huge dude in uniform.
"I told you he would get stopped, didn’t I?" The lady who had earlier stated that perhaps Lucien came to beg for money whispers at the same other lady and winks at her.
"I never doubted it when you said it, did I? He looks like a mad man so it’s normal for him to be stopped and sent out. I can’t wait for the latter to happen," the other lady retorts and giggles.
"Poor wretched Lucien Wood in the four walls of Glistening Royal Hospital. Astounding…"
"He must be a fool if he thinks he will be let to cross…"
"He’s always been a fool so don’t be surprised that he might have thought that. Haven’t you heard that he disrupted the Pearsons’ daughter’s wedding? Oh, poor Brooks. He didn’t deserve what he got…"
"He should be caught and held behind bars…"
More and more people both old and young in the hospital continue murmuring and some even begin visualizing disastrous storylines. Some who were outside walk in just not to miss this exciting scene as they think it.
"My lover lies in one of the wards in this hospital. I need to see her and know how she’s faring so get out of my way," Lucien mutters in an icy voice, his gaze boring into the uniform dude’s gaze.
The uniformed dude gets so astonished by his tone and words that he involuntarily takes a step backward. To say that he is so frightened by the words of a good-for-nothing like Lucien Wood makes him feel so insulted that he clenches his fist.
Lucien glances at him coldly seeing his clenched fist and covers the remaining space between them. "If you think you are strong enough as your body makes you feel then hoist a fist at me. If you don’t wake up in the afterlife then let my name be taken away from me."
"Who does he think he is…"
"Is he really claiming strong now…"
"A weakling like him is claiming that he can send this huge dude to his death…"
"Gosh! This guy should just scatter his face…"
The dude shivers at his domineering aura as he has never beheld such aura before and to the amazement of all the people walks away without a single word and Lucien chuckles.
"Good choice, bro," Lucien grins, glances at the people whose hands are over their mouths, and continues his walk, leaving them to sort out themselves.
He gets to the receptionist’s counter and remembering he doesn’t know the ward Juliet is in, halts and clears his throat.
"Get out from here, asshole!" The young receptionist shrieks at him even before he can say anything and glares at him.
"How saucy, shouting and cursing a customer, aren’t you afraid of losing your job?" Lucien frowns.
The receptionist chuckles and rolls her eyes at him. "Why should I be? Hmph! You are just a pauper from the slums, what does it matter if I shout at you? Punk, what the hell are you doing here? You better talk fast before I call the guard on you!" She slams her hand on the counter and stomps her foot.
"Do you mean that guard over there?" Lucien points at the guard who happens to be the same dude that had initially stopped him and chuckles.
"Yes! What about him?" She furrows her brows.
"Look at him. Does he look like one that will want to come ten meters close to me?"
The guard catching a glimpse of Lucien when he points at him, shivers even though he is far away and hurriedly walks away.
"You see what I told you?" Lucien laughs and waves his hand in the air as if commanding a choir.
"Enough!" The receptionist suddenly bellows and once again slams her hand on the counter, her veins pulsating.
