Chapter 4

The Lost Wolf

‘She has to be crazy to be wandering alone at night in the woods. Either she is extremely tough or maybe she is lost.’ My inner wolf Niall mumbled as I watched a young girl surf through the woods. She appeared extremely tired, as her leg seemed nimble when she walked.

‘Or maybe she is just stupid to be wandering here.’ He asserted again. She is a werewolf, but I don’t recognize her to be from my pack or any other nearby pack. Is she newly turned? I wondered.

‘We should help her,’ I replied to Niall as I went near the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.

She was startled when I approached her. Damn, she is beautiful. I tried my best to be the gentleman I am and maintain eye contact with her instead of gawking at her body like some lovesick adolescent. But I failed because she was too damn beautiful not to look at her.

She had the most gorgeously green eyes and luscious and pouty lips which had dried blood on them.

‘Was she feeding here in the woods?’

Her form was curvy yet petite, and her rich brown hairs were a bit frazzled, but she still looked exquisite. Her hair reached her lower back. But the thing that didn’t sit well with me was the fact that her gorgeous body was covered with bruises. Her clothes were ripped, and she looked like she was about to pass out.

Her scent is so sweet, just like a rose. As soon as I sniffed her, I realized that she was the one. She is my mate. She is the one person that the moon goddess has chosen for me. She looks extremely young, though. I hope she is at least 18 years of age.

Even Niall grew undeniably delighted after sniffing her scent. And he wanted to come out and let out a loud howl because of discovering her.

I’ve been searching for her for so long. But I don’t know if this is the right time to have her. But now that I’ve gotten her, I can’t let her go away.

So, when she said she was looking for a place to stay, I decided that she would stay with me.

“Forgive me, I forgot to introduce myself, it’s been a long time since I had to do that,” I said in an even voice and a little smugly because everyone around knew me well. After all, I was the Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack, and soon I’ll be the Alpha King.

“I am Alpha Daniel, of the Dark Moon Pack, it’s a pleasure meeting you.”

“Nice to meet you, Daniel,” she said in her sweet voice, and the moment she said my name, something in me shifted. My heart started beating faster. My breath became rigid. I have never had this effect before, and she did this to me just by saying my name. Well, I’ll be damned.

“May I know where you’ll take me?” She inquired, and I had no choice but to answer her truthfully.

“I am taking you to my mansion,” I declared openly.

“And, why should I come with you? Why should I trust you to keep me safe? You have already helped me enough, just let me know a hotel or a place and I’ll go there. You don’t have to take me with you.”

Oh, poor thing. She doesn’t have any idea how difficult it will be for her to live in the outside world.

I kept my tone indifferent because I didn’t like knowing that she didn’t feel the connection I was feeling between us. I hated knowing that, and said to her, “Firstly, you should come with me if you want to stay alive. Because if anyone else notices that little birthmark of yours, they will most likely tie you up, hang you, and restrain you like that until you are dead. Feel free to stay here if you want. I was only trying to help you.”

Her cautious expression instantly changed into one of regret. She looked beautiful, even with a frown on her face.

“Oh, I am so sorry if I offended you. I was just trying to be sure. Please take me with you. What you did for me, Daniel, means a lot,” she said, and from a few moments ago, she is finally starting to make sense.

I nodded in acknowledgment of her apology and murmured, “Just keep the mark covered in front of others when I take you to the pack to meet them,” while pulling her torn shirt to her shoulder.

We can’t let anyone see her mark because she is an enemy, and no one in my pack will accept her if they see it. And they would even lose their respect for their Alpha if they knew that I kept her even though she is our enemy, which I cannot afford.

“Okay, I will,” she said obediently.

“If the others in the pack saw this, they won’t be happy to have you around,” I explained, and I don’t know why I explained that to her. It’s not like I owe her any explanation.

“I know that. I promise I will cover it up,” she promised.

“Okay, let’s go then.”

After a while, we reached the Howard Mansion. It was by the corner of the French Quarter. Our home was relatively ostentatious, and why would it not be? I am not only an Alpha, but I am a billionaire as well. So, I had to have a good setup for my clan, which got along with my reputation.

As soon as we entered the home, we were greeted by Cindy. She has been working for me for over a decade now. Cindy is a hard-working woman in her 40s. I have asked her to leave the job if she wants, but she insists on staying.

“Hello, Alpha Daniel. May I set up the room for your guest?” Cindy said in her pleasant voice. She is like an elder sister to me.

“Yes, Cindy, Please, do that. This is Rose and she will be staying with us.”

“Hello, dear.”

“Hello, ma’am. It’s nice to meet you,” Rose replied gently.

“Likewise.”

“Let us sit in the living room till your room gets ready,” I urged Rose while nodding my head toward the living room area.

“Yeah, sure.”

‘Ask her about it, Daniel,’ my inner wolf urged me as we both relaxed on the couch. There was only one thing I wanted to know from Rose, for letting her stay here. I want to know her. I want everything, her past, her present, and her secrets.

So, after hesitating for a mere second, I asked her as politely as I could, “Do you mind sharing about the person who did this to you? I mean, you said it was done to by your own people, by your own pack. But who did this and why did they do this to you?”

She looked at me with a startled expression, her eyes wide on her face like she was extremely disturbed by the question, which only intrigued me more.
