Chapter 63. Our Eyes Can't See It
The next morning:
Iris wore the earrings and saw Adolphus's reflection in the mirror. "Stay seated," he said and approached her.
Coming to a stop behind her, he tenderly rested his hands upon her shoulders. "I must depart for now. Ensure you dine punctually. I shall return shortly," Adolphus reassured her.
Iris grasped both of his hands tightly before rising to her feet, pivoting to meet his gaze. "What about breakfast?" she inquired.
"I've already had it," Adolphus responded.
A pang of guilt swept over Iris for oversleeping. "His Highness should have roused me," she insisted, embracing him. "Please, do take care of yourself," she urged, her voice laced with concern.
"Oh, I will," Adolphus said and pulled away. He caressed her cheek with the pad of his fingers and kissed her. It was difficult for him and his wolf to go away from her, but this task was important too.
