Chapter 34. Danger

DANTE’S POV

Adeline and I are in my kitchen, trying to fix something for dinner when I hear my security alarm go off. I snap my head towards the direction of the sounds, instinctively wrapping my hands around her wrist. Automatically, all the lights in the house go off and all what’s left are the lights outside. People are trying to break into my house and they’re bold enough to keep going even though the alarms have gone off.

I can literally hear them trying to break my front door down. I grab Adeline and bring her upstairs to my room, where I keep most of my guns. Guns I have just now realized she doesn’t even know about yet because they’re in my secret room which I can only enter via a trap door.

I can’t kill anyone tonight, even in self-defense, so I’m going to have to find a way to drive out these intruders without breaking their necks. Turning to face her, I have only now realized the scared look she has on her face, even though it’s mixed wi
