Chapter 37. Game on: Wrong Turn

“We should keep up,” Jasmine swirled.

Max slackens his pace. It has been a hectic long day and he needed to catch his breath. It’s over three days since they left Lisa after she refused to help them get back to the human world with her tremendous magical powers.

“I need to rest.” Max leans on a fig tree panting slowly.

Walking through the woods in the land of the dead can be dangerous, especially in dark hours. Sounds saturate the woods around them -- insects buzz, frogs yelp, birds and bats click. Screeching owls added to the cacophony of spooky sounds they could hear.

It’s dark and they had no source of light with them. They only have the moon to guide their path.

The moon peeped through the fig tree leaves and faintly lit up the dark path ahead.

Jasmine cast a terrified glance at Max and whispered in a frightened voice, “It’s not safe to stop and rest.”

“Not when I’m losing my breath,” Max mutters.
