Chapter 149. A Call with Vito

Anna stared at the screen. She certainly was not expecting Vito to be calling her. But again, deep down, she did. 

She hadn’t spoken to him in days so of course he would want an update concerning their plan. They literally had not talked, not since Victor had taken her away.

Anna’s fingers hovered over the screen, hesitation gripping her. The mafia boss calling made her gut twist.

Slowly, she tapped the answer button and lifted the phone to her ear.

For a second, neither of them spoke. Then, his deep, gravelly voice cut through the silence. “Where the hell are you?”

Anna’s stomach clenched. Straight to the point, as always. “I—”

“I heard from my people that Victor took you out of the country,” Vito continued, his tone sharp with irritation. “I don’t like being kept in the dark, Anna. You know that.”

Anna swallowed, gripping the phone tighter. “Hold on,” she whispered.

She couldn’t risk Victor—or anyone else—overhearing this conversation.
