Chapter 153. The Park

Anna took a slow breath, trying to steady herself. But the temptation to open it was strong. 

“Don’t open it. Not now,” she whispered to herself as she continued to stare at it, her heart thumping in her chest. 

Her fingers itched to break the seal, to see the name inside. She needed to know who Victor wanted her to kill.

Her mind was screaming at her that it didn’t matter…she wasn’t going to do it. She would meet Carlos, and they would figure a way out of this. 

But some sick part of her knew that whoever’s name was in this envelope was already as good as dead. If she refused, Victor would find someone else. And that someone wouldn’t hesitate. 

Then she would pay for her reluctance and disobedience.

Anna shoved the envelope into the inner pocket of her jacket and grabbed a small backpack. If she was meeting Carlos at the park, she needed to make it look like she had a reason to be there.
