Chapter 151. Faked It

As the car pulled up to the university, Anna took a deep breath, forcing herself to push away the choking weight of her reality. 

She had to act normal. Pretend everything was fine. She had to pretend like she was like the others. Like she had an ordinary life.

But the truth was far from that. 

The campus was alive with students bustling about, chatting in groups, laughing, living their ordinary lives. The sight made her ache with longing. 

This was the life she had wanted…boring, safe, predictable.

She stepped out of the car, adjusting her bag over her shoulder. The driver didn’t say a word as she walked away. They never did. 

Victor’s people weren’t there for conversation. They were there to make sure she stayed in line.

Her first class passed in a blur. She couldn’t focus on the lecture, her mind too tangled in the storm of thoughts about what she would do tonight.
