Carlos exhaled sharply, pressing his fingers against his temple as if trying to physically push away the betrayal of his father that was now threatening to consume him. 

“All these months,” he muttered. “All these months, I lived thinking I was free from his shadow, that I could finally live for myself.” He let out a bitter laugh. “And he’s just been there, watching. Controlling everything.”

Anna remained silent. What could she say? She had been just as blindsided when she found out. 

But she could tell that the guy was torn between two emotions. He was angry and saddened at his father for being alive and hiding it from him, not even caring to reach out.
