Chapter 154. Crossing a Line

Carlos sat down beside her, taking the envelope from her hand. His fingers hesitated for just a second before he tore it open, pulling out the folded paper inside. 

The quiet rustle of paper felt louder than it should have, filling the space between them with tension.

Anna watched as he unfolded it and scanned the contents. His face remained unreadable at first, but the longer he stared, the tighter his jaw became.

Then, without looking at her, he read the note out loud.

“Daniel Richards. CEO of an online fiction reading company here in Cyprus. His schedule and…” Carlos’s voice dropped slightly, his tone turning sharper. “How he should be killed. A bullet to the head.”

Anna swallowed, her stomach twisting. The words on that paper were so direct, so final. A bullet to the head. No hesitation, no mess. Just execution.
