Chapter 159. Runner’s High

Anna grabbed a cup of coffee from the dining table, using the simple action to ground herself. She needed to move carefully. 

No sudden changes in routine. No unnecessary interest in places she didn’t usually go.

Victor was smart, paranoid, even. This could be a setup to test her. He could be watching her at this very moment.

So yeah, she had to be smart. Or all her efforts and everything she had gone through to be where she was done was going to be vain.

Anna took a sip from her cup, her gaze flicking toward the guards stationed near the entrance. They were watching her, not openly, but enough for her to notice.

Stay calm. Be patient.

Anna set her cup down and smoothed out her clothes before rising to her feet.

She decided that she was going to go for a run first, to clear her mind. That way, she wouldn’t rush to make any decision that she might regret.
