Chapter 158. Power

Anna’s hands trembled as she gripped the phone, her vision blurring from the hot tears that spilled down her cheeks. 

She sucked in a shaky breath, trying to steady herself, but the heaviness of everything she had done…everything she had been forced into…crashed down on her like a tidal wave.

She wasn’t supposed to feel this way. She had prepared for this, hadn’t she? Lorenzo had prepared her, right?

Was she being overdramatic? Or was it rightfully so to feel all the emotions she was feeling?

Her thumbs hovered over the screen, her breathing ragged as she typed a reply.

“It’s done. I have his trust now.” She hesitated before sending it. Why? She didn’t know. But she ended up sending it.

A moment later, another buzz.

“Good. Stay strong. We’re close. You have to be fast, remember. Don’t get too comfortable.”

Close.

Anna let out a bitter laugh, swiping at her damp cheeks. Close to what? At this rate, when all was said and done, she mi
