Chapter 178. Guilt and No Service

Anna pressed a hand to her mouth, trying to stifle the sobs shaking her body. She hated herself for lying. 

But at the same time, she felt like it was something that needed to be done. 

She hated herself for the way Carlos’s face had crumbled, the way his voice had cracked when he had begged her for the truth. And yet, she had still given him a lie. A cruel, necessary lie.

But was it really necessary? Her heart screamed that it wasn’t. But her mind shouted back at her that it was. 

Anna’s hands trembled as she wiped at her cheeks, but the tears kept coming. She felt raw, exposed, like the weight of her choices had finally settled on her chest, making it harder to breathe.

Why did she kiss him? Why did she let it happen? This was something she was never going to forgive herself for.
