Chapter 179. Sleep It Off

“Anna?” Zac’s voice was steady, but there was something off about it…too controlled, too calm. 

It sent a chill down her spine because it was not something she expected. She expected him to sound frantic or nervous.

She wasn’t sure how exactly she was expecting him to sound but it was far from controlled and calm.

Anna swallowed, gripping the phone tighter. “Zac...”

A pause. She could hear his breathing on the other end, slow and measured. “Where are you?”

Her stomach twisted. She knew the rule and she was most definitely breaking right now. She was not supposed to talk to Zac, she knew that.

That was the one and only rule that Victor had given her. Staying away or cutting ties from Zac in exchange for his freedom.

Now that he was free, she had to honor that rule. But this was the second time she was breaking it. The first time had been when the guy had just been released from prison.
