Chapter 186. Distinguished Guests

Anna hesitated for a fraction of a second before slipping her hand into the crook of his arm. 

She could still remember how close they had been when she had kissed him and he had kissed her back.

But holding him right now was bringing all those feelings back in an even more vivid way.

His body was warm beneath the fabric, a stark contrast to her own cold fingers.

Carlos didn’t say anything about it, but she caught the slight twitch of his jaw. He was tense too. 

Good. At least she wasn’t the only one feeling weird or like this could all go to hell in an instant.

She wasn’t alone. And that was one of the reasons she wanted him to come along. Or allowed him to. 

As they made their way toward the grand entrance, she felt eyes on them…curious, speculative, maybe even jealous. 

She wasn’t sure if it was because of her or Carlos, but either way, it put her on edge.
