Chapter 37. Contracts
Zac led Anna through a series of narrow corridors, each darker and colder than the last. The air grew thick, and the torches seemed to burn with a more intense, almost menacing light.
Anna’s heart pounded in her chest, but she trusted Zac, even as uncertainty gnawed at her. Did she even have a choice when it came to trusting him?
They came to a large, iron door that looked ancient and foreboding. Zac placed his hand on the door, and it swung open with a groan, revealing a vast underground chamber.
The walls were lined with intricate carvings depicting scenes of torment and despair. In the center of the chamber was a massive, circular pit surrounded by stone pillars.
Anna hesitated at the entrance, feeling a wave of dread wash over her.
“What is this place?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. It looked like a place where she would be taken to be sacrificed.
She did not like it; she did not like it at all.
