Chapter 43. Bullets
They sat in silence for a few moments, the weight of their unspoken words hanging heavy in the air. Carlos finally broke the silence, his voice gentle but firm.
“Anna, I’m serious. You can trust me. Whatever you’re dealing with, we can handle it together.”
Yeah, maybe. Maybe she could trust him, but that did not mean that she could trust him with what she was dealing with.
What she and her family were dealing with was not a common and ordinary thing. The lord of hell was even involved!
Anna took a deep breath, trying to find the strength to keep him at a distance without pushing him away completely.
She wanted to keep Zac’s rule; she wanted to keep him away, but at the same time, she didn’t. So she was treading carefully on a thin line.
“Carlos, I appreciate that, I really do. But some things… some things you just have to face alone.”
