Chapter 47. A Sliver of Hope
Kevin broke the silence, his voice strained. “Dad, what do we do if they find us again? We can’t keep running forever.”
He wanted to tell them his plan, a very easy and much safer plan that he knew they would not like but would be for the best.
Mr. Hall’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. “We’re not just running. We’re regrouping. We need time to come up with a plan.” His voice was filled with an emotion that could not be easily deciphered.
Mrs. Hall turned in her seat to face them. “We’ve been in touch with some old friends who might be able to help us. But we need to be cautious. Trust no one outside this car, understand?” Her eyes held worry.
Anna and Kevin nodded, absorbing the gravity of the situation. Kevin decided to keep his mouth shut, but only for now.
They sped through the night, the lights of the town fading as they reached the outskirts. Day had already fled, and it was now night, maybe past nine.
