Lying to the police was not the brightest of ideas, but for now, it seemed to be the best. They were only following Zac’s advice.
And to be honest, that seemed like the smarter thing to do. Telling the police about Vito and Armano might make matters worse.
Detective Willie studied her face for a long moment before nodding slowly. “Alright, you can go. But remember, Anna, the truth always comes out.”
The words of the guy echoed in her head as she turned around, walking towards the door with a dry mouth and a knot in her throat.
Anna left the room, her heart hammering in her chest. She rejoined Kevin, who was waiting for her in the hallway, his expression tense.
“Let’s get out of here,” she whispered.
As they walked towards the exit, their relief at being free of the police station was short-lived. Outside, amidst the flashing lights and the bustling crowd, stood a figure that made Anna’s blood run cold.
