Chapter 50

Mia refused to cry as she watched Alex climb up the stairs and disappear into the hallway. Her heart clenched and she blinked back tears that were already glistening in her eyes. She swallowed hard, unable to stop the hurt she felt from forming right from her very core. What was she expecting? That a marriage out of a controversial issue, would immediately spring up into a love story? How could she ever think that this marriage could work out? And that there could be a possibility that somewhere, somehow, there was a connection between her and Alex, even though it could be very little? She refused to cry, but his words were like a knife that pierced through her heart, and she had no idea how long she stood close to the stairs.

Alex got into his room, and as soon as he closed the door, he leaned on it. He heaved out a sigh. Had he been too harsh on her? He wondered. But, he was telling her the truth. The marriage between them only happened due to the calamities in their packs.
