Chapter 51
"Yeah, right," Alex replied as he finally bit into his cornbread.
A few minutes later, Mia walked down the stairs, after tying her hair in a Celtic knot. She approached the table with a sweet smile plastered on her face.
Alex looked in her direction, and guilt for no reason clenched his heart. How could someone he spoke so rudely and harshly to, was smiling so pleasantly? He shook his head mentally. There was no way anyone could be this genuinely happy or carefree. He thought within himself. Mia was pretending to be this way, that was all and nothing more, he thought.
He looked away from her as she got closer to the table. "Good morning, everyone," she greeted with a lovely smile as she pulled her chair back and sat down.
"Morning," Alex and Hendrix said in unison.
"How was your night, Mia?" Hendrix asked her.
Mia raised her shoulders up and with a sigh, she dropped them. "Splendid," she replied with a smile. "Did you enjoy the party last night?"
