Shantelle’s POV
“What’s going on, Uncle Salvador?” I asked.
Uncle Salvador’s expression turned somber, his eyes clouding. “We need to talk.”
He didn’t need to say more than this for me to understand that what he was saying was the right thing to say now.
Nobody wanted him to beat around the bush, I just wanted him to say what he had to say so that we could know what our next options were, then we would weigh what it was and see how to help ourselves from this mess that my parents brought to our doorsteps. But we couldn’t disregard them, because if the case was reversed, they would do anything to make sure they helped us. That wasn’t the point.
Mama appeared at the doorway, her face pale. “Salvador, is everything okay?”
Uncle Salvador nodded. “We’ll discuss it shortly.”
