Chapter 4

Amelia’s POV

The news went by pretty fast, and the people of the pack soon learned that I was getting married.

They were all surprised and wondered why they were getting a new Alpha, and I could tell how curious they were about the whereabouts of their former Alpha and Luna.

Whispers filled the room as the people of the pack gathered, asking themselves questions as they couldn’t seem to understand the reason for the sudden change of Alpha and why I was getting married.

“Why is she suddenly getting married? I thought she was going to leave the pack for good…is she going to live with us now?” A voice asked amidst the crowd.

“Even if she had a change of mind, why is she getting married in the absence of her parents?” Another voice asked.

“Who is she getting married to? I overheard someone saying that the groom is not even from our pack. Do you think something is happening? Are they keeping something from us?” Another voice echoed.

The looks on their faces showed how curious and concerned they were about the sudden news, and I couldn’t even chide them for being so anxious.

The look on their faces was more of a disapproval, and standing at the corner of the room as I watched the people talk only gave me more reasons to murder Mason in his sleep. The urge to ruin him became more intensified, so I stumbled back into my room before I went wild in front of everyone.

The last thing I wanted to do was to get married to a rogue who killed my family and now wants to rule our pack as the Alpha, but I know better than anyone else than to create a scene over this.

The whole pack was already questioning why I was suddenly getting married. If they should hear the news about the death of their Alpha and Luna, they probably won’t even welcome the idea of me getting married to that fucking rogue, not to talk of respecting me.

I sank into my bed as I wondered what Mason’s real intention could be.

He definitely wouldn’t come to our pack to take over without a reason, right?

I continued to dwell on my thoughts to figure out the way out of this, but it was a loose end.

I was snapped out of my trance when I heard a knock on the door.

“Come in,” I muttered as I tried to compose myself.

Faye clicked the door open, and one would think she was the one getting married to the rogue. Her face was a complete mess, and she looked completely broken from all the cries.

“You should get ready. The wedding is starting soon.” She tried to compose herself as she talked, but she failed woefully.

I wanted to hug her and tell her that everything was going to be alright, that I would be fine, and that I would avenge our parents’ deaths, but I did not have any strength left in me.

I was just as broken as she was. The only difference was that wrath had blurred my vision, and I was determined to ruin the man that killed our parents even if he had to become my husband tonight.

“Can you help me pick a dress? We don’t want people to think we are mourning…” I whispered, and Faye nodded.

She searched my closet for a dress suitable enough to wear for the ceremony. It didn’t matter whether I wanted this or not; people were watching.

Faye finally settled for a dress, and I didn’t even care if it was good enough or not.

Reluctantly, I slid into the dress, and Faye did my makeup.

Once she was done, I took in a huge breath as I mentally prepared myself for the shitty ceremony.

“Are you sure that you want to do this?” Faye asked. She couldn’t hold back her tears as they ran down like a river.

“Do you have a better idea?” I snapped before I realized what I was doing.

“Faye, I am not doing this for myself… nobody knows about the death of our parents yet, and we both know that I don’t have a say in this. It is the rule, and if I want to get everything back to normal, I have to go through all of this.” I sighed.

“You are not even given time to mourn their death… Uncle Harry’s, too. Amelia, this is too much for you to bear. How about you run away? You were meant to leave the pack anyway. How about you do it now?” She cried.

“And then what? I will give the rogue the satisfaction he wants. Not only that, but I will be humiliating our parents, Uncle Harry, and the pack as a whole. I cannot be selfish in this situation, Faye. Where will that leave you?” I asked as I cupped her face.

“I don’t know. I just feel like all of this is too much,” she cried.

“Everyone has gathered downstairs. They are waiting for their princess to show up and tie the knot with her supposed husband, and that is exactly what will happen.

You will clean your face and put on an act as if everything is fine. You will put on your prettiest smile like you would on my actual wedding day. Let’s get this over with,” I muttered.

Faye kept on breaking down upon hearing each word as they rolled out of my mouth.

“Promise me that you will be fine,” Faye begged as her eyes pleaded for me to change my mind.

“Even if it takes my last breath, I will avenge our parents’ death, and I will make Mason pay for what he did, I promise,” I said to Faye, but it was more of a promise to myself.

I looked at myself in the mirror for the last time before heading downstairs, where people were gathered.
