Chapter 108. The Full Moon’s Challenge
“Can we take a break?” Lara groans, stretching her neck with complete exhaustion from the endless lectures about her father’s business— her new responsibility. It was exciting listening to them for a while, but now every new detail feels like another brick added to the weight of responsibility already on her shoulders. She's new to all this, and with each passing day, the learning curve keeps getting steeper.
Carter cracks a grin as he stretches his arms above his head, his fatigue evident in the lines of his face. “Fine, I think we deserve a break.”
Lara watches him with racing thoughts. “I think you should try to talk to the fraternities, just this once. I'm sure they will listen. If they don’t, then I’ll step in, but I’m confident you’ll manage.” Her voice is earnest, and laced with a plea for him to lead and share the burden.
Carter sighs heavily. “Fine, I’ll try, but I make no promises.”
“Thanks, Carter.” Lara smiles, but a shadow slowly crosse
