Maddox felt like his soul had been shoved out of his body. He stood there, frozen in time as he just stared at his beta, trying to mentally chew on what he had just heard. He really hoped that this was all just a nightmare and that he would wake up from it at any second.

But the more seconds passed, the more he started to understand that this was his reality. A huge knot sat in his throat and he tried to swallow, but it was way too hard. He finally blinked and was out of his head and back in the real world.

“My mom is dying?” He asked in a small voice, forcing the words to come out. All his anger and all that adrenaline had fled away, and all he was left with was this empty feeling. Maybe it was that he was in a state of shock, but his emotions were no longer all over the place.
