Chapter 37
William’s POV
I met an elderly gentleman near the casino I opened in Milan. I had never seen him around before, but he smiled kindly at me and said the place looked fantastic. I invited him inside out of courtesy, even though we hadn’t officially opened yet. We already had bottles and everything prepared. The employees would be coming in the next day to let people see the place. The gentleman, named Perk, declined to enter. He informed me that he didn’t have money for it, so I laughed and told him it was fine; I had no intention of charging him. I just wanted some company.
Perk told me about his family; he had a fifteen-year-old son, was a single parent, and was currently unemployed. He said he had been laid off at the age of fifty, which surprised me to hear.
