Scarlett’s POV
“And she hates me,” I thought to myself. I considered lying, I admit it, telling her that William didn’t hate her. But the pain would be worse. I looked at her with compassion and extended my arms to hug her. Her hands surrounded me, and I smiled.
“It will pass, I promise,” I said.
“Do you think he’ll ever come to love me?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” I confessed. “I hope so.”
“I never thought we’d become friends. I hope your vacation with my fiancé goes well,” the way she emphasized the word ‘fiancé’ didn’t go unnoticed. But I decided not to engage in an unnecessary argument. Being with Mérida wasn’t as bad as I initially thought it would be.
