Scarlett’s POV
I stayed still and silent, not having eaten anything since Matt brought me home. I remembered clearly that Olive was very scared, she touched my face and asked if I was okay, but I didn’t respond. They say death knocks on your door when you least expect it, and now I believe it’s true. I didn’t know my parents had died; I didn’t know they had me listed by my name instead of saving me as their daughter. Were they ashamed of me?
I haven’t been able to breathe properly since I heard the news. I want to be with my parents. As a child, they told me they would never leave me, that I was their favorite person, and that if anything happened, they would be there for me. But nothing has happened; they haven’t kept their promise. They left me and abandoned me in this house. I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel, or what’s right anymore.
