Chapter 5
Denise’s POV
I was out for dinner in a town not too far from pack grounds. I had to admit that this was one of the only places I found true peace. I could do whatever I wanted with nobody throwing hateful looks at me or trying to make me feel like I didn’t belong. Here no one was going to attack me.
Like I did on the last week of every month, I was sitting in a really nice restaurant known as Coup de Blues. It had been a tradition for my dad and me since I turned 15 to come here. And after his death, I decided to come on my own. It was hard sometimes, sitting all alone and feeling the heavy looks of people wondering what I was doing here all alone. But I didn’t care. Being here was very therapeutic, if I was being honest.
It gave me the opportunity to watch happiness. I couldn’t do that in my hometown. There was definitely someone who would drop a snide comment or make a disrespectful remark that would make me wonder why I didn’t just stay home. But here, I was fre
