Chapter 28. Caring Heart
The following morning, I awoke earlier than intended, my thoughts consumed by Silas's condition. His shivering form, hidden beneath the comforting embrace of a warm quilt, resembled that of a fragile puppy seeking solace. Determined to ease his discomfort, I hastened to the basin, retrieving a towel, and soaked it once more. Gently, I draped the warm, wet cloth across his body, absorbing the chill that clung to his skin.
“Once the sun rises, we should head to the hospital,” I suggested, my words intended for Silas, who must have been awake, for he shook his head and grasped my hand, hindering me from continuing my ministrations. His resistance, however, triggered a surge of frustration within me.
I longed for his safety and well-being, but how could that ever become a reality if he persisted in rejecting my efforts? My voice trembled as I implored, “Come on, Silas. Please stop doing this. I want you to be okay. Can you let me do this? Please stop refusing.”
