Chapter 71. John’s Dilemma

Jackson's POV

Turned to see if Caroline was still there while I tried to comfort Rose. She seemed to be clinging to me with her hand clutching my dress. She was practically seeking my attention, and she came at the wrong time. I was particularly looking for a distraction, but right now, I intend to talk to Caroline and clear her out.

There was a misunderstanding between us and I realized she was hiding something from me. All what she said earlier made me sad, but at the same time I realized that she wasn't coming completely clear. There was just a lot that had been going on, and the fact that I had no idea what it was really bothered me.

The fact that she didn't accept her wrongs and instead saw it as my fault without sounding grateful was also the reason I ignored her and immediately tried to console Rose.

Rose eventually pulled away to look at me with a pitiful expression that made me curious to know why she was even crying to begin with.
