“My parents don’t know any of this,” she admitted, lowering her voice. “They don’t even know I’m an actress.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Why not? I’m sure they’d be proud. You’ve already worked on some impressive projects.”
She let out a soft sigh and leaned back in her chair. “I grew up in the countryside—my folks had a farm. But there was a fire, and everything went up in flames. Mom and Dad lost almost everything. Since I’m their only child, I had to step in and help.” She paused, her gaze drifting to the small window by our table. “I moved to the city, got a job as a waitress. My life’s like a dramatic movie, isn’t it?”
