Kyle Faith walked quickly on the cold December night, down the side street, her heart still pounding from the last scene she had with her mom, no, foster mother, and her drunk husband.
The cold air stung her face, and it felt good. Instead of sending a shivering down her spine, she felt her body relaxing and her muscles going back to position. She used the opportunity to breathe deeply, and she felt free.
She would never go back to that apartment again, never have to retrace those grimy steps. She will never have to see the corrupted neighbourhood again, and she will never have to pass through the street that consists of those men who nearly raped her.
