Chapter 25
It was already past seven in the evening, and Lila was about to lock up the coffee shop when an emotionally down Madison staggered in.
“Where’s that coming from?” Lila asked rhetorically when she rushed to Madison after noticing her gloomy mood.
“Have you been drinking, Maddie?” Lila asked her, yet again, rhetorically, because she needed no confirmation that Madison had been drinking. The stale smell of alcohol that lingered in the air around her was proof enough.
“Oh my God!” Lila exclaimed upon confirming Madison was indeed tipsy. “I can’t believe this is happening again,” she further said.
The last time Madison returned drunk was when her husband passed away. Lila wondered what the problem could be, and great concern was clearly written all over her face.
Lila didn’t wonder for long. She had a hint.
“Is it Nathan again?” Lila asked Madison.
Madison nodded her head to give Lila an answer.
