Chapter 26
“Maddie! Maddie!” a familiar voice kept calling out to Madison as she attempted to cross the streets with Lila. Madison wanted to cross successfully first before trying to find out who it was. Since it appeared the person behind the voice was running towards her, Madison decided to pause and turn around.
“Do not come any closer to her,” Lila said as she spread her hands to shield Madison away from Nathan Westbrook. She didn’t even let him get close to Madison.
“Maddie, let me speak to you, please,” Nathan beckoned to her, but she wouldn’t give him a listening ear.
The streets were already lonely, so their voices echoed into the night, whatever they said. It was surprising how Nathan used his eyes to see Madison if she was hurt.
“Are you okay, Maddie?” Nathan asked her so he could be sure.
“You mean if I’m okay from the hurt you gave to me?” Madison responded to him in an irritated and unfriendly manner.
