Gage’s POV
“So, what do you say you want?” The man who the agency identified as Valentine asks coldly.
“We heard you needed new recruits. Smugglers to carry your goods across the borders to Tunisia and we thought to try out.” He watches me carefully and his eyes shifts from me to Scarlett.
He suddenly barks out a laugh and Scarlett jumps beside me. Particles of his saliva lands on my face and his breath smells strongly like whiskey. I shift away from him ever so slightly, almost unnoticeably but his eyes follows my movement.
“You don’t look like what I need.” He says, eyeing Scarlett in a way that riles me up. I try my best to suppress my feelings as Scarlett and I are identifying as siblings for the time being.
“Trust me, we’re all that you need. Afterall, you don’t get to judge a book by its cover.” I reply.
“But the book I’m looking at doesn’t even have a cover.” He eyes us condescendingly.
