Chapter 88
Scarlett’s POV
As we venture further away from our temporary haven, our conversation flows freely, like a river long dammed.
Our laughter echoes through the streets as I recount the mischievous adventures of my early childhood and snippets of my adult life. My life isn’t the typical exotic one, I never had to go on vacations until I met Gage but damn, I have a lot of tales to tell from it.
Jane listens, her eyes wide with fascination and a little bit of envy. The streets bustles with activity as a crowd of happy protesters saturate the environment. I now understand why Have let us out so easy.
Amidst our lively conversation, Jane hesitates, then confesses, “You know, Scarlett, sometimes I can’t help but envy your life. It’s fun, independent and exciting. I’m just stuck being regular in a routine that I subconsciously created for myself.”
I pause, and the words in my mouth dries up for a bit. I look at her wishful eyes and I feel sad for her.
