Catherine’s POV

She lied.

My whole life was a lie.

How could she do this to me?

“She did it to protect you,” Kia said, her golden eyes turning serious.

“How?” I asked, shaking my head.

Kia’s words still rang in my ears. The photos in the pack house weren’t of my mother and me but of my mother and the pup she lost before birth.

“There was a rogue attack a couple of days before the pup’s birth,” Kia said. “The goddess took pity on your mother.”

“Why?” I growled, frustrated. The Goddess never intervened. Why did I choose my mother to raise me? Why send me here? Why all the secrecy, and why didn’t Kia just tell me what the hell was going on?

“Your earth mother has a pure heart, and the Goddess knew you would be safe under her protection,” Kia said. “She asked your mother to raise and care for you as her own.”

But at what cost?

There must be a reason why the Goddess would do such a thing.
