Chapter 12

[Egypt]

Salome adjusted the hat on her head and squinted her eyes to adjust to the vision of Mustapha. He watched her and Jamie warily, as if afraid that they carried the virus.

“Welcome to Egypt,” he greeted. Jamie nodded in acknowledgment. “We have made reservations at a hotel for all of you.” His eyes traveled from one person to the other before settling on Salome. “Do come with me.” He led them toward the road where three cars waited to transport them.

Jamie placed his hand on Salome’s waist protectively. He got into one car with her while the team of scientists, which consisted of two scientists, and the team of doctors, consisting of two doctors, walked to the other three cars and got into them. Salome stared out the window, taking in the scenery and beauty of the entire place. She had always wanted to visit Egypt but not under these circumstances.

“Perhaps we’ll go on a tour if we finish on time?” Jamie suggested, seeing how she stared at the buildings
