Chapter 13

The door creaked open, and someone walked into the laboratory and then shut the door behind her. She looked around the place to be sure she was alone then, she tiptoed toward the glass chamber that housed the staff. She stopped directly in front of the chamber and stood staring at the staff in awe and wonder. She had never had the opportunity to stand this close to it. Now that she had, she was marveled.

The staff was straight but had a curve close to the head. She suspected that it was the part the pharaoh held. The staff glistened under the light, the glass chamber not enough to imprison the royalty that it was. It was made of pure, unadulterated gold but had a diamond head. She wondered why people said it was made of Crystallon. Perhaps it was coated with gold to deceive people? She could not say.

Sucking in a deep breath, she fumbled for the keys to the chamber in her pocket. She pulled it out when she found it, inserted it into the keyhole, and opened it.
