Chapter 7
It suddenly started to feel like the entire world was coming to an end. The news of Maria’s death seemed to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Salome almost lost her mind. She was not related to these people dying, but their deaths seemed like an opening to something – something bigger and greater than all of them.
“How?” was all she was able to mutter. Jamie shrugged.
“I have no idea. Simon said we can leave. We can return tomorrow,” Jamie said impatiently. He could not wait to get out of the environment. He was tired.
“Sure. Miriam?” Salome called. Miriam, whose attention was on the ground, stared up at her and lifted an eyebrow. “Will you be okay?”
“Yes. It’s time to bury my head in work and see if I can get answers,” she responded quickly. Feeling pity for her but deciding to respect her decision, Salome nodded in agreement and turned toward Jamie. He took her hand in his and dragged her out of the quadrangle, feeling the need to leave the environm
