Chapter 19
Mayor Hamilton felt his heart racing as he tore past the wide streets of Williamsburg. His heartbeat increased as he neared the location that Chief Walter had given him. Beads of sweat gathered in the middle of his back, where his spine was, and rolled down to his buttocks.
He did not have the time to tuck in his shirt or dress properly. He had grabbed the first pair of trousers he’d found in his closet and a shirt and had exited the premises of his house.
Despite the failed attempts of his domestic staff and his wife to find out what was wrong or at least get a driver to drive him to wherever he was heading in the dead of night, Mayor Hamilton had insisted on having his way.
