Chapter 20
Zoey turned her neck sharply.
“That I am not being sincere with the hand of friendship I’m extending to him,” she made a tutting sound with her lips and added, “Trust me, mom. I think Alex Baker is a lot of things. Being stupid isn’t one of them.”
Corinne relaxed her shoulders, feeling suddenly relieved that it was not what she thought it was.
“I’ll tell you what, honey.” She corked her head to the side, “He’s still being skeptical around you because of what happened when they had dinner with us. It doesn’t directly translate into him not wanting to be your friend ever.”
Zoey looked doubtful.
“I was the one who spoke with him, mom. I know what I saw.”
“So,” Corinne said, lifting her brow, “You want to give up now because his response was not encouraging?”
Zoey rolled her eyes.
“What? No! Not with the kind of incentive you offered me.”
Corinne smiled. She’d always known that including an incentive in the plan was going to make it
