Chapter 26
Alex stopped breathing for a long moment. He turned to find that Zoey was no longer seated by his side. She’d gotten up and was now arranging her books, preparing to leave.
Mrs. Corinne Miller was standing over at the other side, the broad smile still spread across her face. She was dressed in a long black gown and held a red bag in one hand. Her other hand held her cell phone.
She was trotting closer to them now, her eyes not just fixed on Zoey only but also fixed on him. He sat up in his seat, gulping hard. They had not exactly seen face-to-face since the incident that had taken place during the dinner they’d had together.
Alex thought that there was something disarming about her smile. He just couldn’t figure it out yet.
“I must thank you, Alex,” Mrs. Miller was saying. “Zoey told me you agreed to teach her Calculus. I assume that is what you both were studying together.”
