Chapter 45. At the Gates

Levi’s POV

I can’t be in the palace right now. Lennox took Lotus straight to his bedroom, not giving me a moment to speak with her. I can feel him claiming her. Her pleasure mixed with his travels down what is left of the bond between us. No matter how hard I try to push their feelings to the side, I can still feel them.

I push out of the front door of the palace, letting the cold air seep into my skin and lungs. It is a welcome change from the stifling heat inside. Snow crunches under my boots as I cross the courtyard. The turrets of the stronghold loom above me, casting ominous shadows all around. The wind cuts across the ground, stirring up the powdered snow. Its swirls around my feet as I walk.
