Chapter 48. Never Let Your Guard Down

“You didn't hit me, Sophie. Sometimes, you need to release your emotions,” he smiled and proudly admired the fissure that had formed in the ground.

“Were you really willing to let me hit you?” I asked, perplexed, while clenching my fists.

“I've told you, I enjoy taking a few punches from time to time.” He laughed and approached, running his fingers over my eyes. “You can unleash all your pain and anger on me, Sophie, I can take it. But after that, compose yourself, fight, and don't let your guard down!”

“I could have disfigured your face.” I pushed his hands away from my face, frustrated. I didn't know how to explain my reasons, but I didn't want to harm the Lycan King.

“Compassion is a weakness,” he reflected, evaluating me. “Not even with me can you have pity, Hybrid!” He returned to his circle and transformed to attack me.

“Why are you in wolf form? I didn't bring you into the circle.” I returned to mine, intrigued, assuming a defensive posture.
