“Oh, no. That won’t do.” Mom clicked her tongue and gave my arm a light smack before ushering Zac and Chace back inside the house. “Before you leave, you two need to eat first,” she told them warmly. Then she turned to me with a sharp raise of her brow. “Lee, join them for a meal. You haven’t eaten yet, have you? It’s bad manners to send guests away, especially on New Year’s!” she scolded.
“I wasn’t kicking them out! They said they were leaving, so I was just walking them out…” I defended myself, exasperated.
“Mrs. Amaris, I’d love to eat some more. It’s just that your daughter insisted we leave…” Zac suddenly chimed in with a playful smile, making me frown deeply.
What the hell is this guy saying?!
Because of Zac’s little remark, Mom gave my arm another smack—this time harder, and it actually stung a bit.
“Mom! He… he’s lying! I didn’t say anything!” I protested in disbelief. Zac, of course, burst out laughing, clearly enjoying himself
