The walk to the principal office was in silence. It was only minutes before school could let out and here Maddie was, heading to get her life ruined. 

She walked down the hall with Susan and her math teacher. They led the way and walked with purpose while she trailed behind. She could literally hear the beating of her heart and her mind raced with so many thoughts. 

When they finally reached the door, Susan knocked it twice and they waited in silence. Maddie could feel the tension in her bones and muscles. The moment the door opened, her heart dropped and she felt like her soul was being ripped out of her body.
